OMG Worthy Reads, Week 29
In this week’s Worthy Reads, I share a great salad recipe, tips on how long leftovers last, growing mint, changing taste buds and a beautiful kitchen.
It was a gorgeous weekend in Columbus. We enjoyed dining outside for the first time this spring and working in the yard. In-between, I was able to round up some worthy reads to share today. Enjoy.
Recipe of the Week
This Nicoise Salad by Martha Stewart is like a piece of art, so beautifully pulled together. Instead of the usual tuna, this salad has salmon and shrimp. It’s a reminder that you can make substitutions for ingredients that you may not like or don’t have on hand for ones that suit your needs better.
How Long Can You Keep Leftovers?
The Nicoise Salad recipe above is about using your leftovers to create a salad. I thought it was fitting to share this article from Oprah Magazine about how long those leftovers are good for!
Your Taste Buds Change as You Age
I’m sure its no surprise that your taste buds change as you age. I like blue cheese today, albeit in small doses. Up to my mid 20’s, I didn’t care for it at all. I found this article in Good Housekeeping interesting. Did you know that each person is born with approximately 10,000 taste buds that are replaced every two weeks or so until later in life?
The Dos and Don’ts of Growing Mint
Whether you like making Mint Juleps or Tabooli, you need fresh mint. Fortunately, it is one of the easiest herbs to grow; however, is a very invasive. Apartment Therapy has some great suggestions for growing mint. My favorite tip is to plant your mint in a container in the ground to prevent it from spreading.
Room of the Week
The morning room in this kitchen from New England Home is spectacular. It’s bright with all of the natural light and I love the round room. Round tables are my favorite. You can enjoy everyone at the table and it makes for better conversations. I would love to be invited to brunch at this home to enjoy the views, both inside and out.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge

I came across this article 9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge in Town & Country Magazine. Frankly, I had never heard of the word Hygge. Have you?
“Pronounced “hoo-ga,” this Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life.”
So what’s the big deal about Hygge and why am I sharing it? Well, I found it interesting that “this national obsession with all things cozy is credited as one of the reasons why Denmark is always at the top of the list of the world’s happiest countries, despite their infamously miserable winters.”
I love the positive spin hygge puts on their life. It’s something we should all work at.

I am so thankful that the ice storm that was predicted to hit Columbus never came. We had a busy weekend with two nights of having guests for dinner. Friday night I made my tried and true Rack of Lamb. It’s so easy to prepare and a great entrée for a work night. Last night I tried a couple of new recipes that I will soon share on the blog.
Enjoy this week’s Worthy Reads.
