I love before and after pictures, don’t you? They give me inspiration. One of my most popular posts is Curb Appeal – 8 Stunning Before & After Home Updates. The pictures in the post are pinned to Pinterest daily from readers all over the world.
This time around I wanted to write about before and after furniture makeovers. I have scoured the internet looking for creative projects. I have found 9 great ones with before and after photos to share today.
Furniture Updates
Before you throw out that old piece of furniture, think about refurbishing it. It’s amazing what paint, hardware and fabric can do to breath new life into old furniture.
Thanks to the popularity of blogs, Bloggers have taken DIY Projects to a whole new level. They share their makeovers in blog posts along with tips on how they accomplished it. Let me know what you think of these makeovers.
Before & After Hutch
This simple hutch found on Apartment Therapy received a facelift with some gray paint and new brass pulls. It’s brighter and more modern.
Dresser Redo
This wood dresser found on Newton Custom Interiors received a whole new look with white paint and new pulls. This would be the ideal project for redoing an older piece of furniture for a child’s bedroom to make it look young and fresh.
Nightstand Facelift
I love how 4 the Love of Wood not only refurbished these night stands but completely changed the style by adding legs to give the night stands height. So clever!
Coffee Table to Ottoman
Nancy from Artsy Chicks Rule shared how she converted a square coffee table into an oversized ottoman! What a great way to repurpose a piece of furniture.
Before & After French Provencal Furniture
This French Provencal furniture found on Songbird Cottage received a face lift with Chalk Paint®. Great job Melissa!
Credenza Redo
This credenza found on Uniquely Yours or Mine was not only updated with white paint but also moulding to add some architectural detail.
New Look for Dining Table
I like the contrast of the darker top with the cream legs for this dining table redo found on Artsy Chicks Rule.
Ugly Duckling Desk
There is no shortage of ugly desks as I have seen plenty in my lifetime as a Commercial Realtor. I love how this one from Home D-Zine was painted a handsome navy and accessorized with new pulls.
Chair & Ottoman Makeover
Before you turn down your grandmother’s chair and ottoman, look how you can change the look! Brook from All Things Thrifty made hers go from drab to chic with new fabric and paint.
I’d love to hear which makeover was your favorite. I have a table in my great room that houses all of my framed family photos. It will be one of my winter projects. Do you have a piece of furniture you would like to redo?
Have a great week. Thanks for stopping by.

In every case, I like the “after” better. I love things that have a patina to them; that have been updated here and there and become more contemporary. All antiques or all new things are not nearly as interesting as a mixture. xoxox, Brenda

I agree. I’m so happy that mixing different pieces is so popular. I really dislike matching “sets”; makes me think of the cheap looking, unattractive furniture from somewhere like Bob’s.

Love the dresser makeover! I have an old one from my Grandmother that I’ve been trying to figure out how to do it so this was perfect timing!

I love the face lifts given to the night stands. The “after” which looks to be “shabby chic” is not my personal taste for decor, but I can appreciate fantastic work when I see it! I have a bedroom set in storage. Remember the 80’s furniture? When you would buy full matching sets, and certainly wouldn’t mix pieces. Thank goodness those days are long gone! Everything looked so heavy then. Lots of stained, colonial -ish looks. The one good thing about it though is that it was still made really well; real wood and decent craftsmanship. No particle board. What I love is how just by building up the height with the added legs, the peices seem so much “lighter”. Prior, they just looked so heavy and masculine. And it looks as though they didn’t change anything structurally. It’s amazing how inexpensive you can make the old new again these days. In this case, look how a few quarts of paint (looks like they used 2 colors?), legs, new hardware, a little imagination and research, turned out to be what look like expensive nightstands from Boston Interiors or Ethan Allen type stores. A project well done. In my opinion, the night stands are the most transformed of all the projects shown. Well done. An A+ in my book! ?

I agree with you Cindy Lou. Adding legs to the nightstands made them so much lighter. Glad you liked the post!
