Not Your Typical Vase

As a follow-up to last week’s post From Garden to Vase, I thought I would give you some ideas to jazz up your floral vases.  You can add some interest to your floral arrangement by using different vases and containers other than typical glass vases.

For plain glass cylinders, add hosta leaves.  You can enjoy the simplicity of the leaves by themselves or use the leaves to line the vase before adding flowers as shown in the second picture below.

Repurposed Items for Vases

What do you have lying around your house that you can repurpose into a vase?  I adore the Chanel No. 3 perfume bottle used as a vase.

When you are not chilling your champagne on ice, use the bucket as a vase.  You can insert a smaller vase or container inside the bucket to hold your arrangement.

I switched years ago to an electric toothbrush and no longer needed the ceramic toothbrush holder.  They make great vases and the individual holes are perfect for separating the stems.

Old Floral Vases

If you are like me, you probably have dozens of inexpensive clear glass vases from florist deliveries.  Let’s face it, they are boring and plain.  You can paint the inside of them and bring them to life!

There are so many other items around your house that you can use as a vase.  For bridal showers you can use mason jars.  I have also collected the small pimento cheese jars for small bouquets on the table.  Do you have any cut crystal decanters that are no longer safe to store liquor in because of the lead?

Mixing Patterns

I came across these pink and orange vases on the Elements of Style Blog.  I love the colors and mixture of patterns!  Although these appear to be ceramic vases, you could purchase scrapbook paper or use wrapping paper for a special event such as a bridal shower and wrap plain cylinder vases.  Take it a step further and use mod podge for a decoupage effect.

Fruit Themed Vases

You can dress up your clear glass vases with sliced fruit.  The trick to keeping the fruit attached to the glass is wetting the slice of fruit and pressing it to glass vase.  Don’t soak the fruit, just slightly wet it.  Place a smaller vase inside to hold your floral arrangement.

Or you can hollow out a watermelon and use it as a vase as shown below.  This would be a pretty centerpiece for a summer barbecue.

I would love to hear what you have repurposed into a unique vase.
