When we were looking for a house, one of the things on our list was that we wanted a three-car garage. My husband and I love to garden and we needed space for our yard and garden equipment. Well, we fell in love with a home that didn’t have a three-car garage amongst many other things on our list; however, it ended up being the ideal home for us. We compensated by building a garden shed in our back yard.
Since it was going to be part of our view from the rear of the house, I wanted it to be attractive. We tucked the garden shed next to a wall of trees and brush dividing our yard from the neighbors.
My cousin had a similar shed which is where we got the inspiration for the design.
It is so nice to not have to cram all of our yard tools and equipment into our two-car garage.
Garden Shed Details
We not only wanted the garden shed to look attractive but to also be very functional. Here is what we did to accomplish both function and style.
- We added double doors which are great for wheeling out the lawn mower, wheel barrow and all of my pots and furniture that we store in there for the winter.
- We ran electric to the shed. Inside, we have a light; On the outside, several electrical outlets. We use electric tools such as hedge trimmers, power washers, etc. and this makes it convenient.
- We added a window in the shed which helps with natural light inside. Shutters and the window box added charm.
- We chose a brick walkway instead of grass and made it level with the entryway which makes it easier to wheel things in and out of the shed.
- We used Hardie Plank for the siding. It’s just that – very hardy! Love the product.
- We painted the shed to match our trim on the house to tie it in aesthetically.
We have been thrilled with the shed and it has helped us to keep our garage organized.
