Whether you live up north and are battling the snow or if you live in the south and have rain, your shoes and boots can take a beating. I have a quick way to refresh both and it only takes two minutes. You can polish your shoes quickly, whether at home or on the go.
Polished shoes and boots complete the outfit.
Polishing Your Shoes the Easy Way
I came across this wonderful product years ago while in New York City. It was winter time and my boots looked horrible from the salt and snow from walking around the city. While shoe shopping, I saw this “instant shine sponge” and thought I would give it a try. OMG! I was hooked. This is my version of the “Magic Eraser” for shoes and boots! If you haven’t discovered Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser, that’s a whole other post!
I have bought so many of these instant shine sponges since that day in New York City and each time it has been from a different manufacturer. They have all worked equally as good. Most shoe departments have these sponges displayed at the checkout counter. The Synovia Instant Shine Sponge shown in the picture below was recently purchased at Nordstrom’s fabulous shoe department. I have included a link at the end of this post for a similar product from Amazon.
Swipe and Shine Your Shoes
The sponge is pre-treated. You do not have to dip it or spray anything on it. It comes with an air tight lid. When not in use, make sure you secure the cap so it doesn’t get dried out.
All you have to do is swipe the sponge across all angles of your shoes or boots with the sponge applicator. I often polish my shoes and boots when I put them on just as I am going out the door.
Although this sponge can’t completely get rid of signs of nicks and tears in the leather, it is good at diminishing the appearance. This doesn’t take the place of the old-fashioned shoe polishing with colored shoe polish and a pile of rags. I’m lucky enough to have my husband shine my shoes when he polishes his. This is my in between daily routine.
What I love about the sponge is that it is transportable and you can easily pack it in your suitcase. I only pack it if I am traveling during the winter months to keep the salt off my shoes. I would, however, put it in a Ziploc bag in case it separates from the cover. That way you won’t damage any of your clothes.
Have you tried this shoe polishing sponge? It’s an inexpensive item that delivers a big punch to your wardrobe.
