New Uses for Mirrors
There are so many stylish ways for decorating with mirrors and I have gathered a great collection of photos to share.
I found one of the most clever ways at the Confetti Style Blog. Shelly showcases a great way to add character to that awkward alcove. (Plus I adore those herringbone wood floors!)
Shelly’s Decorating Tip: “More times than not when there’s space on the side of a fireplace wall, you’ll see a bookcase or some type of built-in wall unit. Storage and shelving is usually a good thing but mirrors can turn a recessed alcove into a spectacular design statement.
Using a mirror in an alcove space will help define the area, bounces light back into the room and makes the overall space feel larger than it is. Mirrors are more than just something pretty to look at.”
Visit Shelly’s blog for design tips. She has great taste.
Cassandra from the Coco + Kelley blog used a gold framed mirror as a headboard in her post Interiors to Desire, Soft Glamour. I love the eclectic mix of materials in this room.
Cassandra’s blog is fun and edgy. When you visit her blog, you will be welcomed by a smiling Cassandra with the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers! Beautiful eye-catching photography at its best!
I have recently discovered Paloma Contreras’ Blog, La Dolce Vita and was immediately drawn to this picture. As you may know by now, I love decorating with a touch of animal print. The ornate mirror looks fabulous behind the zebra print ottoman. I especially love how masculine the room feels.
La Dolce Vita has evolved into a fabulous design blog. Paloma scouts out fabulous designers and beautiful rooms. I am enjoying her daily posts as well as reading past ones.
House Beautiful Magazine posted this beautiful room. An empty gold frame placed over this oversized mirror adds an interesting layer to the fireplace mantel. I love the reflection of the chandelier in the mirror.
My stair landing
As if photography isn’t hard enough to get the correct lighting, angle, etc. – – It’s even worse to photograph a mirror! I have a lot to learn and can’t wait to take a photography course, but in the meantime, my posts will be sprinkled with my not-so-professional photos.
This gold and black checkered mirror is at the landing of my stairs.
The picture below is the sitting area in my master bedroom. I didn’t want to spend much money on artwork when we were moving in as I was putting the majority of my decorating budget into the first floor. A collage of four mirrors mixed in with a wall sconce and framed print were an inexpensive way to decorate my bedroom walls.

These oversized mirrors are the perfect accessory to this wide open room. They anchor the dining room and the dark wood is a great contrast to the white furnishings. Peruse through Michael Partenio’s portfolio. He is an amazing photographer.
This Tuscan style dining room looks elegant with the oversized gold leaf mirror that I found at Elle Decor. The long table calls out to double chandeliers and they will sparkle in the mirror at an evening dinner party.
In an earlier post I told you about, Houzz, One of my Favorite Decorating Apps. When you are looking for decorating inspiration, Houzz is a great starting point. You can easily narrow your search to the specific room or item you are interested in.
The following three pictures from Houzz depict great uses for mirrors in bathrooms. I love the arched mirror in the first picture below.
