OMG Worthy Reads, Week 77

Happy Spring! I have some great Worthy Reads from around the web this week. Enjoy a delicious shrimp recipe as well as a guide to buying shrimp. I share a collection of street fashion from as far back as 1916, travel tips for vacationing in Europe, and a beautiful room from one of my favorite design sites. Enjoy!

Happy Spring!  Trees are starting to bud and my bleeding heart perennials are starting to peep out of the ground.  I love this time of year.

Enjoy some great links from around the web in this week’s Worthy Reads.

Recipe of the Week

New Orleans BBQ Shrimp

I made this New Orleans BBQ Shrimp from Kevin at Closet Cooking on Friday and it was delicious.  I served it over rice and topped it with sliced green onions.  It’s spicy but full of flavor.  The recipe shows it served with some delicious bread to sop up the sauce.

Guide to Buying and Selecting Shrimp

Guide to buying shrimp

I’m particular about my shrimp.  I want it wild caught and from the USA.  I am able to find wild caught shrimp from Key West at my local Kroger.  They come with the shell on so I do need to remove the shell and devein but I don’t mind.  It’s worth it to have shrimp that I am comfortable with.   Serious Eats has a worthy read, Everything You Need to Know to Buy Better Shrimp.

An in-depth article by Consumer Reports, How Safe is Your Shrimp may be an eye opener for you.  If you are not already doing it, check the country of origin on your bag of frozen shrimp!  The majority of what our grocery stores sell comes from India, Indonesia, Vietnam and other areas that I will not purchase.

Room of the Week

Eating by Natural Light!

Who wouldn’t want to wake up and have breakfast in this eating nook found at Design Chic.   The natural light flowing in is beautiful.  If you are in the mood to see one beautiful room after another, spend some time on this mother/daughter interior design site.  Beth and Kristy s have great taste.

Street Fashion through the Years

Street Fashion through the years

Town and Country’s What People Were Wearing the Year You Were Born made my Worthy Reads this week as I am always fascinated to see how they dressed in the early 1900’s.    It’s especially of interest having just witnessed the fashion trends in Downton Abbey through the six seasons.

I got a kick out of the photo featured above from 1917.  Animal Print is definitely a classic!

Personally, I enjoyed looking at the photos from 1916 through 197o.  Beyond that, those were years I lived through and I can’t relate to some of the fashions shown.  Let me know what you think.

Have a great week!

9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge

9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge

I came across this article 9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge in Town & Country Magazine.  Frankly, I had never heard of the word Hygge.  Have you?

“Pronounced “hoo-ga,” this Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life.”

So what’s the big deal about Hygge and why am I sharing it?    Well, I found it interesting that “this national obsession with all things cozy is credited as one of the reasons why Denmark is always at the top of the list of the world’s happiest countries, despite their infamously miserable winters.”

I love the positive spin hygge puts on their life. It’s something we should all work at.

I am so thankful that the ice storm that was predicted to hit Columbus never came.  We had a busy weekend with two nights of having guests for dinner.  Friday night I made my tried and true Rack of Lamb.  It’s so easy to prepare and a great entrée for a work night. Last night I tried a couple of new recipes that I will soon share on the blog.

Enjoy this week’s Worthy Reads.
