Sangria for Summer Entertaining
Every other year my husband and I host a summer party for his Rotary club. The first year we had the party, I wanted to try a new Sangria recipe that I came across. John was a bit hesitant as he didn’t think Sangria would be a hit with the guys. He made sure we had plenty of beer and wine as an alternative beverage.
To his surprise, the Sangria was a huge hit with everyone. It became a requested drink for our bi-annual party and many of our guests have asked for the recipe. It’s colorful, the presentation is pretty and it has summer written all over it.
Overnight Sangria
I call it “Overnight Sangria” because you can prep most of it the night before. It’s an added bonus that the messy part is done in advance so you can clean up and just assemble the Sangria before your party.
The uniqueness of this Sangria is to marinate the fruit in Tequila and sugar the night before your party. The Tequila soaked fruit is the key ingredient to making this so delicious! It’s also refreshing and will become your go to summer party beverage.
Ingredients:
3 oranges, thinly sliced
4 lemons, thinly sliced
4 limes, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup tequila
1 bottle dry white wine, chilled
1 bottle champagne, chilled
2 cups club soda
2 cups lemonade
Place oranges, lemons and limes in a casserole dish. Pour the sugar over the fruit. Add the tequila to the fruit mixture and mix gently. Cover the casserole dish with plastic wrap and let soak overnight in the refrigerator.
Before serving, add fruit mixture, wine, champagne, club soda and lemonade to your serving container. Add ice*.
Serves 12-14 drinks.
*Tip: You can make ice cubes out of lemonade to prevent your Sangria from being watered down with plain ice cubes.
I often double the recipe for large parties.
