I love to wear dresses and sandals in the summer but I can’t stand my legs being pasty white. I wish I could spend more time on the beach or at the pool; however I not only do not have the time to sunbathe but also it’s not healthy to tan on a regular basis. For me lounging in the sun is fine for vacations with lots of sun screen, but self tanners are the way to go for everyday color.
The Best Self Tanning Tips
I have discovered a simple way to self tan without it being streaky or orange. These five self tanning secrets will get your legs looking great with the look of a healthy tan without the help of the sun.
1. Find a Self Tanner that Works for your Coloring
I have been using Jergens Natural Glow for several years and love it. Although I have olive skin, I use the Fair to Medium one because I want it to be natural and feel that the medium to tan would be too dark.
On a side note, Jergens Natural Glow received a Best of Beauty Award in 2014 from Allure Magazine. I wholeheartedly agree with them on this wonderful product.
2. Use a Tanning Mitt
I bought a Vita Liberata Tanning Mitt at Sephora for $6.50. It was a great investment for little money. A friend told me to use a mitt which helps to eliminate any streaking. It evenly distributes the self tanner and the added bonus is that you do not have to worry about removing any residue from your hands which will cause discoloration.
3. Exfoliate
Before applying your self tanning cream, exfoliate your legs with a wash cloth in the shower. Also, be sure to shave.
4. Use Moisturizer
The next tip is to apply a light moisturizer to your knees and ankles which tend to go darker. The moisturizer helps insure a more even tan.
5. Apply from the bottom up
When applying the self tanner, start at your feet and work your way up. This way you won’t inadvertently get any tanner on your arms as you bend over to apply the tanner.
With just a little bit of color on your legs, you can confidently wear skirts and dresses with the look of sun-kissed legs.

What great tips! I love the Jergens too, it’s by far the most natural looking and they’ve really improved the smell over the years! I use the one for the face too. I’ve never seen the mitt and I’m so excited to try it! My tip (learned from experience!) is to make sure to blend the self-tanner onto the ears and up to the hairline.

Always enjoy your blog! Last year, I discovered the most wonderful self tanner. It is Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster by Clarins. You mix 3 drops with your moisturizer and apply to face and neck. It never streaks and is very natural looking. It is not inexpensive, but a 15ml bottle lasts for months. Clarins has excellent self tanners for the body as well.
