We are rounding the corner and we will soon be at Week 6, The Final Reveal of the One Room Challenge. For those of you just joining me, I have chosen to redo my foyer.
Once the Final Reveal takes place, I will want to spend that weekend curled up on the couch, visiting all of the participating blogs. I can’t wait to see their newly remodeled rooms. I love before and after pictures and seeing how creative minds work.
Misc. Odds and Ends for Completing The One Room Challenge, Week #5
Here’s where my one room challenge stands as I enter the final week:
My chandelier is in. I was a bit nervous to open the box as I had not seen the fixture in person, only on-line. My concern was the color of gold – would it look like what I saw on my computer screen? Well, I wasn’t disappointed! Now I can’t wait to have it installed!
I’m down to several other last-minute things, one of which I cannot believe I lived with for 16 years! We have a doorbell that is hung on the foyer wall towards the ceiling. We inherited it from the previous owners. It’s ugly and outdated.
Why haven’t I done something in all these years? Well, I first thought it was attached to the wall with wires and I didn’t think it would be easy to remove. We had so many other projects around the house that I had to tend to first.
Then, life got in the way and I simply forgot about it. It was high up on the wall and I just didn’t see it anymore! It’s amazing how you can get used to something and it becomes invisible. Have you had that happen to anything in your home?
Fast forward to this past month and I almost fell over when I watched my painter pop the cover off. That brown ugly box just sat on top of the hard-wired door bell. What? I could have just spray painted the cover when I moved in? OMG!
So on my list this week is to finally spray paint this doorbell cover a cream color to blend in with the wall.
Shutter Doors
As I wrote in an earlier post, I had installed shutter doors between my foyer and kitchen when I first moved into our house. What was the architect thinking when he designed the house with a kitchen sink in direct sight of the front door!
I have decided to dress up the shutter doors with brass knobs. I was very limited on the style of knobs because they will be installed back to back on the frame of the shutters which doesn’t give me much room. I ended up with this 3″ tall brass pull. The brass goes along with my gold theme in the foyer.
I would have preferred a more simple brass bar but I couldn’t find ones with a single post. Since the knobs will be back to back on the door, I wanted one single open end screw to be able to attach the knobs on both sides of the doors. Sometimes you just have to settle and this will do.

I love those knobs and too funny about the knocker…sometimes it’s always the simplest things that cause us the most grief. Looking forward to seeing your reveal!

RE: Absent door to kitchen from foyer
Pretty sure due to the age of your house that would have been a ‘swinging butlers door’
Your right the architect would not have overlooked that 😉
