Winter has arrived. We had our fist snowfall which was later than any other winter than I can remember. This week’s worthy reads are timely for these colder winter days. They include comfort food recipes, a beautiful fireplace competing with scenic views and two winter projects to take on. The first project is washing your pillows and the second is printing some of those holiday photos on your iPhone. Enjoy!
Recipe of the Week
The New York Times surveyed their readers for their favorite recipe of cookbook author Marcella Hazan who passed away in 2013. Many readers responded with one word: “Bolognese” When I see a response like that, I know it’s a recipe I must try. It sounds delicious and different from any sauce I have made. Click here for Marcella Hazan’s Bolognese Sauce.
Room of the Week
The view doesn’t get any better than this home in Seattle. I love a water view but also love a mountain view. Both can be so peaceful. But to have both at once … OMG! This room with a view is on Elliott Bay facing Puget Sound and was designed by Finne Architects. Check out the rest of the house at Home Adore.
How to Print Photos from Your iPhone
While at lunch the other day, my girlfriend asked me how to print a photo that I had texted her from New Year’s Eve. I thought it was worth sharing today as I often say I have all these great photos on my phone but never have hard copies which I miss. It’s time to update some of my family photos around the house which means getting them off my iPhone.
Here is a great article from How-to-Geek. You can print photos on your own printer but for the best quality I am going to just upload my photos to Costco or Walgreens.
1010 Park Place
In last week’s post at 1010 Park Place, I share my fond memories of Sunday Roasts. Did your mom make a roast on Sundays when you were growing up?
I found a recipe for Eye of the Round Roast that sounded so interesting! The recipe had me with the words “make in advance“. You first cook the roast at a high temperature, then turn off the oven and let it sit for 2 1/2 hours. Head on over to my post at 1010 Park Place for the recipes.
How To Wash & Whiten Yellowed Pillows
I didn’t know that you could wash pillows! Do you wash yours? I have pillow case covers on my pillows as an extra layer between the pillow case and the pillow. Jillee from One Good Thing shared not only how to wash pillows but also how to get rid of the yellowing as well. Her before and after pics say it all!
Thanks for stopping by.

In my early 20s, Marcella Hazan changed the way I approached Italian cooking. No more red sauces, but bolognese. xoxoxo, Brenda
