Happy Thanksgiving week! I am excited for the arrival of my in-laws today. We have a fun-filled week ahead.
This past Saturday we attended the last home football game for Ohio State for the regular season. It was cold and rainy but there was a huge bright spot to the game.
A young boy walked on to the field with our team mascot. His military mom who had been stationed in Japan appeared on the scoreboard screen. She said she was sorry to miss his first Ohio State football game and that she sent him her love. It gave me chills!
She then appeared in full uniform, running across the field to surprise her son. OMG! The tears were flowing freely.
I can still cry thinking of this and the sacrifices our military make for us. I am thankful this Thanksgiving for those serving our country.
Now, on to my Worthy Reads for this holiday week. Enjoy.
1010 Park Place
My post at 1010 Park Place this past week was all about Beautiful Holiday Staircases. I love the fruit used in the holiday decorating in the foyer below. Head on over to my post for additional inspiration.
Recipe of the Week
Blogger Julie Blanner shared a copycat recipe for Ruth’s Chris Sweet Potato Casserole. If you are not familiar with Ruth’s Chris, it’s a famous steak house. This isn’t a recipe you would make every day but certainly worth the calories for Thanksgiving Day!
Turkey Roasting Times
Here’s a great reference chart for How Long to Cook Your Turkey found on Time.
Room of the Week
If it’s going to be cold outside, you might as well have a view of the snow-covered mountains, right? One of my favorite things about skiing out west were the breathtaking views! When skiing at Deer Valley, Utah, we had the pleasure of touring several homes right off the slopes. A roaring fire and the mountain view makes it worth being in cold weather. This beautiful home was found at Elegant Residences.
Turn Turkey Bones into Turkey Broth
Don’t throw your Thanksgiving turkey carcass away. It’s so easy to make a flavorful broth that you can portion into smaller containers and freeze for future use. I make a similar one to Katie’s at Mom’s Kitchen Handbook. It is so much better than canned broth!
Safe travels to those that are traveling for the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! May your blessings be many!
