OMG Worthy Reads, Week 25

This weeks worthy reads include travel tips both local and abroad, a recipe for sweet potato fries, how to clean your grill and a gorgeous great room.

I just returned from a quick vacation to West Palm Beach.  I took my mom down to visit her brother and we had a great time.  We went to the town of Delray Beach for the day and it was jam-packed with seasonal travelers.  In Palm Beach we splurged and had lunch at the Breakers.  What a gorgeous hotel!

The Breakers

I had their crab cakes and they were not only delicious but beautifully plated.

While waiting in line for my car at the valet, Jerry Seinfeld was in front of me.  Since his back was to me, I recognized his voice before I saw his face.  As soon as I heard him talk, I knew it was him.  It’s funny how you can tell who someone is from their voice alone.

For the fun of it, I got on Twitter to see if there was anything about him being at the hotel.  Sure enough, I found this picture of him on the walkway by the beach.  They were doing some construction and digging and he was teasing that the freighter in the background was spraying black sand on the beach.

It was a great week with quality time with my mom and uncle.  On the return home, I had plenty of time to surf the web at the airport to find some worthy reads and links for you this week.

Recipe of the Week

Recipe for Sweet Potato Fries

I had some delicious sweet potato fries on my trip that were nice and crispy.  I found a recipe on how to make them at home at Sally’s Baking Addiction.  They are the healthy alternative to regular fries although I still love both!

Room of the Week

Lake House Great Roomvia Classy in the City

Since I am still in vacation mode, I selected a room with a view for this week’s feature!   This scenic water view can be enjoyed through the walls of windows in this sitting area.   I love the combination of patterns in blue and white throughout the room.  It looks like a small area and the owner made use of the space under the coffee table with baskets.  It’s well put together and so inviting.

How Far Out Should You Book Your Vacation?

Buzz Feed posted this infographic on when you should actually book your vacation.  On my trip to Florida, I found that traveling Tuesday to Saturday was the least expensive fare.  It’s always worth checking out all of your options but this is a good guideline.

What the US Dollar Means for Summer Travel

Worthy Read for Traveling Abroad

Speaking of traveling, the US Dollar is now stronger and that is good for those traveling abroad.  For those of you heading out of the country, check out this worthy read from Yahoo Finance.  The writer is going to Ireland which I have to say must be booming this year.  I know of a half a dozen families going to the land of green!  I say the land of green because I have never seen so many shades of green as I have in the countryside of Ireland.  It’s beautiful and peaceful!

How to Clean Your Barbecue Grill Grate

Now that the snow is melted its time for me to start using my barbecue grill.  I came across this tip at Made From Pinterest about cleaning the grate and thought it might be of interest to some of you.  I haven’t tried this yet.  This is an interesting site run by three sisters.  They pin things from Pinterest and then share their results.

I’m curious – – Are you planning a summer vacation?  If so, where are you traveling to?

9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge

9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge

I came across this article 9 Ways to Make Your Life Better with the Danish Concept of Hygge in Town & Country Magazine.  Frankly, I had never heard of the word Hygge.  Have you?

“Pronounced “hoo-ga,” this Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life.”

So what’s the big deal about Hygge and why am I sharing it?    Well, I found it interesting that “this national obsession with all things cozy is credited as one of the reasons why Denmark is always at the top of the list of the world’s happiest countries, despite their infamously miserable winters.”

I love the positive spin hygge puts on their life. It’s something we should all work at.

I am so thankful that the ice storm that was predicted to hit Columbus never came.  We had a busy weekend with two nights of having guests for dinner.  Friday night I made my tried and true Rack of Lamb.  It’s so easy to prepare and a great entrée for a work night. Last night I tried a couple of new recipes that I will soon share on the blog.
