My family was in town over the weekend and I made the Butternut Squash Lasagna from last week’s Worthy Reads. We all loved it!
I did want to point out though that the recipe calls for only 8-10 minutes for roasting the squash. It was more like 30-40! The brown butter sauce with sage and lemon zest really added another layer of flavor. I won’t lie though, it was a lot of work.
It’s a great recipe for a special party and you can prepare it in the morning and cook before serving. Just remember to let it rest for 10-15 minutes after removing from the oven. It will set up perfectly and hold its shape when you serve it. It was great with a green salad and a glass of Pinot Noir.
On to this week’s Worthy Reads.
Learn Calligraphy in Five Days
Calligraphy has become so popular. It’s kind of ironic how it is making a comeback, yet so many of our schools no longer teach the children cursive writing.
Wedding season is just around the corner. If you would like to learn calligraphy for your invitations or perhaps a smaller affair such as your rehearsal dinner invitations, Judith Blanner can teach you the basics in five days.
Don’t you love this floral arrangement? Peonies will be available soon … can’t wait to have a fresh bouquet in my home! This low arrangement is ideal for a dinner party so you can see your guests across the table. Pin it to your Pinterest board for future reference.
Room of the Week
I love this all white kitchen found at Just Be Splendid. It’s so bright and the neutral room opens the door for accessorizing in whatever color you desire. I’m obsessed with the white marble with grey veins. The most famous one is Carrara marble and it is so elegant.
Recipe of the Week
I first fell in love with shrimp and grits while on vacation in South Carolina. It was a fabulous restaurant near Clemson. I had never had grits until then and was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful they were! It’s rare I pass it up on a menu as it’s one of my favorite things to order. I found this recipe for Gouda Grits with Smoky Brown Butter Shrimp at How Sweet it Is. It looks A M A Z I N G! This is on my short list of recipes to try.
10 Lessons We Learned from Nate Berkus
Domain Home featured 10 Lessons from one of my favorite designers, Nate Berkus. I first saw Nate on the Oprah Winfrey Show. What I loved about his style was that every room he did was not only beautiful but also livable! The rooms never felt stuffy or over the top.
In this article I loved all of his advice and truly couldn’t pick one favorite. Do you incorporate these lessons in your decorating?
The Little Lip Trick
The Beauty Department has a great tutorial on how to apply lip liner and lipstick/gloss. It makes sense to me and I can’t wait to try it.
Thanks for stopping by. I love hearing from you in the comments section or by email, so keep them coming! Have a great week!
Wednesday is my next post. Sign up below to have new posts delivered to your mailbox.
