The world lost a space hero this week but to my fellow Ohioans, we lost a home town hero. My neighbor Cheryl was good friends with John Glenn. I was fortunate to see some personal videos and stories she shared over the years on Facebook from her visits with John and his wife Annie. Such a love story and such good people.
I love how every time he embarked on a dangerous mission, he and Annie said goodbye the same way. His last words to her before leaving were: “I’m just going down to the corner store to get a pack of gum.” She would always reply “Don’t be long.”
It’s still amazing to me that he circled the globe three times in just 4 hours, 55 minutes!
God speed, John Glenn! Rest in peace.
Now on to this week’s regular Worthy Reads.
Recipe of the Week
Blogger Julie Blanner shared this easy winter salad recipe with arugula, pears and candied walnuts. It’s simple and would be an ideal accompaniment to a winter roast.
Entertaining, Ina Garten’s Way
Since this is the time of year many people are entertaining in their homes, I thought I would share Ina Garten’s Entertaining Tips for the Holidays from Williams Sonoma.
Note how she had a tall arrangement at the end of the table so as not to block the view across the table!. I like doing that with both floral arrangements and candelabras when I don’t have seating at the end of the table.
How to Not Look Tired
What I loved about this article from Racked on How to Not Look Tired is that it offers recommendations from real people! Especially since I am always looking for ways to de-puff my morning eyes!
1010 Park Place – Truffle Recipes
Last week at 1010 Park Place I shared a collection of truffle recipes from around the world. They are surprisingly easy to make. The toughest decision is deciding which recipe to try first!
Room of the Week
I absolutely love these brown benches found in this gorgeous living room in Architectural Digest.

The truffles look amazing! I’m going to try the German Chocolate truffle. My husband and I both love German Chocolate Cake…and chocolate! This is perfect.
Thanks for sharing these. I enjoy your blog.
