We attended three holiday parties this weekend so it was a welcome retreat when I could spend some quiet time to research some topics for this week’s OMG Worthy Reads. Here we go.
Worthy Reads of the Week
Celebrity Home Tour
First up is a tour of fashion designer Joseph Abboud’s beautiful home via Traditional Home. I especially love his contemporary kitchen. Do you like it?
Refreshing Winter Salad with Candied Walnuts & Apples
This winter salad with candied walnuts and apples sounds so refreshing after all of the rich holiday food we have been eating. We still have several weeks of holiday festivities ahead of us so I will be need of some delicious salads that I can pair with sandwiches and soup for some lighter dinners in between the parties. You can find this recipe at Cool Mom Picks.
A Century of Hair & Makeup Styles
It only takes one minute to watch the time-lapse of a model getting her hair and makeup done to match every decade from 1910 to 2010. OMG! It’s a fascinating clip. The eighties were the worst, don’t you think? It’s a decade that should never be repeated. Which was your favorite decade?
Ornament Party
Last week I participated in an ornament making party at my stepdaughter’s home. Lydia had some family and friends over to craft homemade ornaments. She describes in detail how to throw an ornament party on her new blog, Lydi Out Loud. It’s been fun to have her follow me into the blog world.
Here are some of the ornaments I made. Michael’s had a flat style clear plastic bulb that I purchased. I added rhinestone letters to personalize some ornaments along with white organza ribbon. It was so simple and I loved the elegant results.
I also purchased a six-pack of clear glass bulbs at Michael’s. I wanted to make a polka dot ornament and Lydia taught me to dab the eraser end of a pencil into the paint and it made uniform polka dots. Again, a simple ribbon dressed it up.
I have been in love with all of the beautiful calligraphy and script fonts I have seen across the web lately. So I was thrilled when I came across these gold lettered stencils. I just had to peel each letter off and spell whatever I wanted on the ornaments. I bought two packs of stencils since each one only had two of each letter and number. This way I had more flexibility on the wording and selection of letters.
