OMG Worthy Reads, Week Six
This week I have found some great sites for you to visit. First on the list is about the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
Nine Surprising Facts About the Fall of the Berlin Wall
It is 25 years since the Berlin Wall came down. I have been to Berlin and toured the Check Point Charlie Museum. It was so hard to fathom that this wall was in effect during my lifetime. I can’t imagine a wall going up in my neighborhood, cutting off all civilization from the other side!
The Berlin Wall is of special interest to me since my mother-in-law was from Berlin. My husband and his family had visited Berlin as a child and also in his teenage years. They went there to visit his grandparents.
John’s grandparents lived in West Berlin. Because John and his family were American Citizens, they were able to take a bus into East Berlin to tour (East Berlin has a fabulous museum – The Pergamon).
We went to Berlin to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday with his sisters and their families. It was their first time being there with the wall down.
The Berlin Wall had been a canvas for graffiti. One of my most surprising thing about this city was that since the wall came down, the beautiful buildings took the place of the wall for the graffiti. It was everywhere! But better on the buildings than a wall dividing a city!
USA Today did a feature on Nine Surprising Facts About the Fall of The Berlin Wall. It’s worth the read!

Gifts for Kids that Aren’t Even Toys
I agree with Blogger Rachel Jones who is a mother of six. Toys are good, but too much of anything isn’t good. I love her article, 18 Excellent Gifts for Kids that Aren’t Even Toys at The Huffington Post.
It made me reminisce and think of the wonderful gifts I received as a child. My mother made our Barbie doll clothes and she also made me a doctor’s kit so I could care for my dolls. She filled old prescription bottles with candy and had my doll’s names on them. I remember being in awe … How did Santa know my dolls names?!
My brother made us a doll house out of cardboard for our troll dolls. It was adorable!
In today’s world, kids need other things instead of just electronics!
