Some people call them German Pancakes. Other’s call them Dutch Pancakes. Since my husband is half German, I refer to them as a German Pancake. His mom made them often.
Regardless of the name, they are delicious and a great entrée for a special brunch. The puffy pancake with golden edges can be served with powdered sugar, syrup or fruit.
Following are three recipes for you to try.
Cardamon Apple Dutch Pancakes
A couple of weeks ago my friend made this Cardamon Apple Dutch Pancake. The original recipe is from Martha Stewart. The addition of apples in this recipe made it a perfect for a fall breakfast. I recently made it but didn’t have any cardamon. You can use cinnamon instead if you don’t have cardamon.
If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, you will want to purchase one. They are great for even heating and retaining the heat longer. They also can boost your iron intake.
German Pancake Made in Casserole Dish
This German Oven Pancake from Stef at Girl Inspired can be made in a 9 x 12 glass casserole dish. Stef squeezes the juice of one lemon over the top and dusts generously with powdered sugar. I love anything with lemon so this is a must for me to try.
Mini German Pancake Recipe
If you prefer to make individual German pancakes, make them in a muffin tin. They make a pretty presentation for company and will cook at the same time. No batch cooking! For this mini version, head to The Kitchn for the recipe.
Have a wonderful weekend.
