During most of our river cruise we decided to take it easy and relax, leisurely touring each port. We didn’t want to sign up for any excursions such as Salzburg or Prague which were several hours away by bus. We did, however, want to tour the Audi Factory and it was only a one hour bus ride.
European River Cruise Excursion – Audi Factory Tour in Germany
The Audi Factory tour was at their headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany. Our tour was on of the highlights of our Danube River Cruise this past summer. We were amazed at how clean the factory was and how automated the assembly line was with robotic arms.
The workers road bicycles up and down the aisles on their breaks! The whole factory was an amazing site to see in person. Something I highly recommend if you happen to be visiting the Regensburg/Ingolstadt area of Germany.
Hops Fields in Germany
Another perk of this excursion was that our bus drove along the German countryside and we saw several hops fields. I never knew that hops was a climbing plant that is trained to grow up a string type trellis. Germany is the land of beer so it wasn’t shocking to see one hopes field after another.
Please forgive the blurry pictures but I was at the mercy of our bus driver and his driving.
Other Excursions Available
The cruise line offers many other excursions. Some of our fellow travelers went to Salzburg. It was a lengthy bus ride and this vacation was all about relaxing so we didn’t opt for any long trips.
On previous trips to Europe my husband did a lot of driving which is far from relaxing. That is what is so nice about the River Cruise. We didn’t have to pack and unpack as we traveled and there was no driving involved.
