Next week is Valentine’s Day and a big week for the floral industry. If you need inspiration on how to stylishly arrange your flower bouquets with very little fuss, then this post is for you.
Flower Bouquets
They come in all shapes and sizes but my favorite is a bouquet of the same flower vs. a mixed bouquet. That’s my secret to a quick and easy flower arrangement.
This post is timely for those that are receiving a dozen roses from their Valentine. If you are treating yourself to some blooms, pick up a bouquet of one type of flower and follow these tips for some elegant flower arrangements.
My Favorite Way to Arrange Flowers
When you have a variety of flowers in a bouquet, you tend to keep fussing to get it to look right. I think it’s easiest to arrange flowers when they are all the same kind such as a bouquet of roses. Very little work is needed to pull off a trendy yet sophisticated arrangement when they are the same flower.
My favorite trend in arranging flowers is to just show off the beautiful blooms near the top of the vase with very little, if any, stems showing. It’s as if the flowers are growing out of the vase.
This works well for long-stemmed flowers such as these roses and lilies. I love the simplicity of arranging them in taller vases with just the blooms peeking out.
If you have a rather large bundle of flowers, you can wrap the stems in ribbon to keep the arrangement in tact and the blooms tightly held together as shown below.
Whether your flowers have long or short stems, you can cut them to fit smaller vases such as this mint julep vase. A cluster of flowers in one color is pretty.
Turn One Bouquet into Several
Just because you receive a dozen roses or any other flower, there is no rule that says you have to keep them together. Split them up into several vases and spread the beauty throughout your house. Place one vase next to your kitchen sink, the others on your night stand, bathroom counter and wherever else you would like. Fresh flowers can brighten any room, especially in the middle of winter.

Arrange Your Flowers in Unique Bowls and Vases
Think outside of the vase. You can arrange your flowers in a bowl. You will need floral foam and some tape. Again, when the flowers are all the same, it is much easier to arrange them instead of trying to find balance with a variety of shapes, sizes and colors from different flowers.
We all have a collection of inexpensive vases that came from florists. Step up your game and purchase some unique vases such as these white and blue vases which look stunning with the pink flowers. You can find similar ones at Pier One, World Market and even discount stores such as TJ Max and Marshalls.
Potted Plants Can Be Stylish Too!
Perhaps you will receive a beautiful orchid or an azalea plant. Don’t keep it in the aluminum paper wrapped pot. Remove the paper and place the pot inside a larger decorative pot. It will make a stylish statement in your room.
Fresh Tulips
Fresh tulips are plentiful this time of year so treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet of them. Check out my previous post Tulips – Styling Tips for Spring. You will find plenty of inspiration on how to stylishly arrange your tulips.
Whether the flowers were a gift you received or a gift you have given yourself, take the time to arrange them to show off their beauty.
Enjoy and have a great weekend.

Hi, I just found your blog, and it is terrific! I love this post. You’re so helpful to highlight more modern (and prettier) ways to display flowers than the old 2/3 flowers and stems and 1/3 vase proportion. You’re absolutely right, your way shows off the flowers better, and not so much the stem. Thanks! xo, N.
